The Furious was launched as a battle-cruiser however she was soon earmarked for conversion into an aircraft carrier this conversion took place in stages altering her appearance every time until she emerged as a full deck aircraft carrier, she served with distinction and survived WW2.
My painting shows the ship in heavy seas viewed from an escort, the ship is in her final appearance but her battle-cruiser origins are clearly visible.
This painting is available through the Arcs of fire gallery in Falmouth. (Please contact for price)

View ProjectH.M.S. Quality was built during WW2 she was an emergency class destroyer. The ship served in the East Indies and eventually in the pacific fleet which is the fit illustrated in the painting. My Granddad served on this ship throughout the war.

View ProjectThe R class battleships were built during WW1 and for their time they were good capable ships however by the 30s they were showing their age, due to Britain’s shortage of battleships at the start of WW2 these ships would have to soldier on, this they did with distinction.
All except H.M.S. Royal Oak survived the war. My painting shows H.M.S. Resolution in 1936 although old these battleships still had an air of magnificence about them and this increased when they encountered swells like the one I have depicted.

View ProjectH.M.S. Argonaut was a Leander class frigate; their design proved to be one of the most versatile the navy has ever conceived, this is most readily demonstrated by their long service lives.
The Argonaut thought in the Falklands war of 1982 she did not get away unscathed while patrolling an exocet missile smashed into the engine room fortunately it failed to explode, this saved the ship from total destruction, it also unfortunately resulted in the youngest fatality of the war. My painting was a commission for a former crew member he wanted the ship portrayed in her final fit and in pristine condition.

View ProjectThe H.M.S. Conqueror was a nuclear powered attack submarine built for the Royal navy in the 70S these submarines were powerful and capable they put the fear of God into surface ship crews as they could strike without warning.
The conqueror became famous during the Falklands war when she torpedoed and sunk the Argentine Cruiser General Belgrano. My painting shows a rare situation as the submarine is on the surface this is not a common thing for these silent hunters which are much more at home under the ocean than on top.

View ProjectThe H.M.S. Minerva was a Leander class frigate, this class of ship has widely been seen by naval analysts as the most successful ship designe built for the Royal navy since the end of the second world war, this claim is backed up by the numbers which where built and the very long service lives of many.
Minerva was typical, she commissioned in 1966 and was not decommissioned until 1992.

View ProjectH.M.S. Ocean was commissioned into the Royal navy in 1998 at her home port of Plymouth. The ship was designed as an amphibious helicopter carrier, she was always very much in demand, serving in Iraq and even had a role at the London 2012 Olympics.
The Ocean went on to become the Royal navies flagship and fulfilled this role right up to the end.
