The Ark Royal was the royal navy’s most advanced operational aircraft carrier at the start of World War 2 she served in the Mediterranean before she was moved to the Atlantic where her aircraft served the fatal blow to the D.K.M. Bismarck, once this action was over she was back in the Mediterranean, unfortunately she was torpedoed of Gibraltar and succumbed to her wound.
The model is resin and the best representation available of this fine ship. I chose to show the Ark Royal after the fatal torpedo hit, this required scratch-building, fortunately a photographer was on hand as the ship was evacuated and provides great reference material of the fateful event. The destroyer alongside is the H.M.S. Laforey which had come in to take off the damage control party which realised the ship was lost.
This model was recognised for a commendation at the world show in 2012.
View ProjectThis Ark Royal succeeded the WW2 carrier; she was built to a revised design in order to carry the new larger aircraft which were coming online at the time. She served the royal navy up to the 70s when a cash strapped government decommissioned her early and so she became the last R.N. carrier to operate fixed wing aircraft.
This model was built from a very old plastic kit which was very inaccurate and so the result you see now is roughly 70% scratch-built with plaster card and anything I could use to create the best final result. The model shows this fine ship in all her majesty and is now a very accurate representation of her early fit. This model was awarded a silver medal at the world show in 2013.
View ProjectH.M.S. Coventry was a light cruiser built just after the First World War, she incorporated many of the lessons learned during that conflict. Over the years she was modernised continually to keep up with the technological advances which were coming thick and fast through the 20s and 30s.
The Coventry was in the Mediterranean at the outbreak of WW2 and was sent to help with the evacuation of Crete she shot down more German aircraft than any other cruiser; unfortunately she was bombed and sunk in this theatre with heavy loss of life.
The model is made from resin and because she is relatively new the casting is exceptional however during construction I found I had to change many aspects of the kit in order to get an accurate finish. This model received a commendation at the world show in 2013.
View ProjectH.M.S. Badsworth was a small destroyer escort built for the royal navy at the outbreak of World War 2, the navy quickly realised it had too few escorts in 1939 and Badsworth and the other hunt class destroyers were the answer they served with distinction during the war many unfortunately became war losses.
This is one of the smallest models I have completed it is from a resin kit and she has all the detail which you would only expect to find on a much larger model she also has a very complex early war dazzle camouflage. This model received a commendation at the world show in 2013.
