H.M.S. Ocean was commissioned into the Royal navy in 1998 at her home port of Plymouth. The ship was designed as an amphibious helicopter carrier, she was always very much in demand, serving in Iraq and even had a role at the London 2012 Olympics.
The Ocean went on to become the Royal navies flagship and fulfilled this role right up to the end. Oceans hull however was built to merchant ship standards and at the end of her career she was beginning to show signs of wear which resulted in her being sold to Brazil in 2018.
The painting shows H.M.S. Ocean anchored near the British Virgin Islands in the wake of the terrible hurricane season which devastated these and many other Caribbean Islands in 2017. Ocean was able to get much needed supplies ashore and her crew played a massive role in helping the local people in their time of need.
