The R class battleships were built during WW1 and for their time they were good capable ships however by the 30s they were showing their age, due to Britain’s shortage of battleships at the start of WW2 these ships would have to soldier on, this they did with distinction.
All except H.M.S. Royal Oak survived the war. My painting shows H.M.S. Resolution in 1936 although old these battleships still had an air of magnificence about them and this increased when they encountered swells like the one I have depicted.
