The Ark Royal was the royal navy’s most advanced operational aircraft carrier at the start of World War 2 she served in the Mediterranean before she was moved to the Atlantic where her aircraft served the fatal blow to the D.K.M. Bismarck, once this action was over she was back in the Mediterranean, unfortunately she was torpedoed of Gibraltar and succumbed to her wound.
The model is resin and the best representation available of this fine ship. I chose to show the Ark Royal after the fatal torpedo hit, this required scratch-building, fortunately a photographer was on hand as the ship was evacuated and provides great reference material of the fateful event. The destroyer alongside is the H.M.S. Laforey which had come in to take off the damage control party which realised the ship was lost. This model was recognised for a commendation at the world show in 2012.
