H.M.S. Albion L14

Project Description

H.M.S. Albion was commissioned in 2003 and along with her sister ship, H.M.S. Bulwark was built to replace the ageing Falkland's war veterans, H.M.S. Fearless and H.M.S. Intrepid.

The primary role of this class of ship is to get the Marines to their destination and with everything they need, where ever in the world that may be. This class of ship has a floodable well deck where large landing craft live to take the marines ashore, they also have a large deck area capable of carrying helicopters.

This painting was commissioned by a former crew member and my brief was to show the ship earlier in her career and on exercise in Northern waters. The hovercraft was very fondly remembered and I had to make this an integral part of the overall painting, this gave me a chance to really push my creative skills and the finished painting was very well received.
