The Andrea Gail 1991 (1/96 Diorama)

Project Description

The Andrea Gail was brought to an international audience in the Film “The perfect storm” The fishing boat was caught in one of the worst storms ever recorded, unfortunately the boat and the fishermen were never seen again. This model is by far the largest I have ever produced I feel she is also the most encapsulating, representing the unforgiving power of nature.

Every sailor who goes to sea realises they are guests and while ships get bigger all the time, the sea can at a stroke wipe out anything put upon it. The model is the largest scale I have worked in and is made from a plank on frame kit. All the fine details are scratch-built and as this model is a representation of the boat used in the film and not the real Andrea Gail, so for this model I was able to use a bit of artistic licence.
